Chelsea or Times Square: Two Different Ways to Experience New York City

By Ariel Ferrero | SunnyNews

From the charm of a creative neighborhood to the endless energy of Broadway, Manhattan offers remarkably different experiences just a few blocks apart. SunnyNews explored both sides of the city while staying at two Moxy hotels, Marriott’s lifestyle brand that offers a fresh approach to urban hospitality.

New York City has a remarkable quality that few destinations in the world can match: walking just a few blocks can make you feel as though you’ve arrived somewhere entirely different. Every neighborhood has its own personality, rhythm, and way of captivating visitors.

Chelsea and Times Square represent two distinct sides of this diversity. Chelsea invites travelers to discover a Manhattan shaped by art, design, gastronomy, and the everyday lives of New Yorkers. Times Square, meanwhile, delivers the nonstop spectacle of a city that never seems to sleep, with its theaters, giant digital billboards, restaurants, and crowds arriving from every corner of the world.

During a visit to New York in August 2026, SunnyNews had the opportunity to experience both environments while staying at Moxy NYC Chelsea and Moxy NYC Times Square, two Marriott International properties that share the same hospitality philosophy but offer different experiences thanks to their locations and surroundings.

Chelsea: A New York Best Discovered on Foot

Chelsea is one of those neighborhoods that encourages visitors to wander without paying too much attention to the clock. Its streets bring together historic buildings, art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, and a creative atmosphere that can be felt around every corner.

Among its major attractions is the High Line, an elevated park built along a former railway line that has become one of Manhattan’s most distinctive urban walks.

Another highlight is Chelsea Market, a food destination housed in a former industrial building, where visitors can explore flavors and culinary traditions from around the world.

This is the setting of Moxy NYC Chelsea, located on West 28th Street in the heart of the Flower District, an area traditionally associated with New York’s flower trade.

The hotel combines contemporary design with spaces created for travelers who want to make the most of their stay. Its location makes it easy to explore Chelsea while providing convenient access to other parts of Manhattan.

One of its most striking features is The Fleur Room, a rooftop lounge offering panoramic views of the city and a particularly impressive perspective of the Empire State Building.

From up there, New York reveals a different personality. The streets stretch out below, skyscrapers shape the skyline, and the city’s constant movement takes on an entirely new dimension.

Times Square: The Excitement of Staying in the Heart of Manhattan

If Chelsea offers a more relaxed way to discover New York, Times Square represents almost the opposite: movement, lights, entertainment, and an energy that seems to intensify at every hour of the day.

For millions of visitors, this part of Manhattan is one of the city’s most recognizable symbols. Its illuminated billboards, Broadway theaters, and constant activity make Times Square an attraction in its own right.

Just a few blocks away stands Moxy NYC Times Square, located on West 36th Street, a strategic base for travelers looking to explore Midtown Manhattan.

From the hotel, guests can easily walk to numerous attractions, including Bryant Park, Herald Square, the Empire State Building, and Broadway’s Theater District.

The property embraces a hospitality concept centered on functional design, social spaces, and an accommodation experience closely connected to the surrounding urban environment.

Among its main highlights is Magic Hour, the hotel’s well-known rooftop venue, which adds entertainment and a playful atmosphere to the experience of enjoying Manhattan from above.

Unlike the sophisticated ambiance of The Fleur Room, Magic Hour offers a more festive experience, perfectly aligned with the vibrant personality of Times Square.

Two Hotels, Two Experiences, One City

Staying at both properties highlights an important aspect of choosing accommodation in New York: the decision goes far beyond hotel category, amenities, or price.

It also depends, to a great extent, on how each traveler wants to experience the city.

Chelsea may be particularly appealing to visitors who enjoy exploring neighborhoods with a strong identity, discovering restaurants and cafés, visiting art galleries, and balancing sightseeing with quieter moments.

Times Square, on the other hand, offers an especially convenient option for first-time visitors, Broadway enthusiasts, and travelers who prefer to stay close to some of Midtown’s most popular attractions.

In both locations, Moxy delivers a contemporary interpretation of hospitality, emphasizing design, shared social spaces, and a strong connection between the hotel and its destination.

New York: A City Worth Experiencing in Different Ways

Perhaps one of New York City’s greatest attractions is precisely its ability to offer so many different experiences within a single destination.

A traveler can start the morning with a coffee in Chelsea, wander past galleries and historic buildings, stroll along the High Line, and end the evening beneath the bright lights of Broadway.

Or take the opposite route: leave Midtown’s intensity behind for a few hours and discover a quieter side of Manhattan, where almost every corner offers a reason to stop and look around.

SunnyNews’ experience at Moxy NYC Chelsea and Moxy NYC Times Square demonstrated that changing neighborhoods can also mean changing the way you experience New York.

Because in a city with so many personalities, choosing where to stay is also choosing which story you want your journey to tell.
