The Fleur Room, en Moxy Chelsea, y Magic Hour, en Moxy Times Square, ofrecen dos experiencias completamente diferentes pero comparten un protagonista privilegiado: el skyline de Manhattan. SunnyNews visitó ambos y descubrió dos de esos lugares donde Nueva York parece todavía más espectacular cuando cae el sol.
NUEVA YORK.- Hay muchas maneras de mirar Nueva York. Desde sus veredas, entre los rascacielos; desde los barcos que atraviesan sus ríos; desde sus observatorios o caminando por sus puentes.
Pero existe otra Nueva York que comienza cuando se abre la puerta de un ascensor, uno camina unos pocos metros y descubre Manhattan iluminada detrás de un enorme ventanal. Es la Nueva York de los rooftops.
Y Moxy tiene dos lugares privilegiados para descubrirla: The Fleur Room, en Moxy Chelsea, y Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, en Moxy Times Square.
SunnyNews visitó ambos durante su reciente estadía en la ciudad y comprobó que, aunque tienen personalidades muy diferentes, los dos comparten algo difícil de superar: el Empire State Building convertido prácticamente en parte de la decoración.
The Fleur Room: Nueva York a 360 grados
Subir hasta el piso 35 del Moxy Chelsea es cambiar de perspectiva. A unos 435 pies —más de 130 metros— sobre Manhattan, The Fleur Room está envuelto por enormes paredes de vidrio que ofrecen vistas de 360 grados sobre la ciudad.
Y entonces aparece Nueva York. Hacia un lado, el Empire State Building domina el paisaje. Hacia el sur, la mirada puede viajar por Manhattan hasta el puerto y la Estatua de la Libertad.
La sensación es la de estar suspendido sobre la ciudad. El diseño acompaña perfectamente esa experiencia. The Fleur Room mantiene la identidad floral de Moxy Chelsea —ubicado en pleno Flower District— con interiores de inspiración botánica, telas florales, una barra revestida en cobre y una gigantesca bola de espejos vintage suspendida sobre el salón.
El interior se mueve entre violetas, azules y rojos. Una enorme figura cubierta de pequeños espejos cuelga del techo, las luces de neón atraviesan el salón y la música transforma el rooftop en una fiesta.
Pero el verdadero espectáculo está del otro lado del vidrio. Al caer la tarde, Manhattan comienza lentamente a encenderse y el paisaje cambia minuto a minuto hasta convertirse en ese océano de luces que hizo inconfundible a Nueva York.
Hay además un detalle espectacular: las paredes de vidrio pueden descender, transformando el espacio cerrado en una terraza abierta sobre Manhattan.
De pronto ya no existe prácticamente ninguna barrera entre el visitante y la ciudad.
Una copa con el Empire State de frente
The Fleur Room funciona como lounge, bar y espacio nocturno, con cocktails y pequeños platos para acompañar la experiencia. Durante la visita de SunnyNews, la mesa se llenó de sliders, papas fritas, grilled cheese y otros pequeños platos, ideales para una noche informal mientras Manhattan funciona como telón de fondo.
Pero uno podría pasar buena parte de la noche simplemente mirando por la ventana. SunnyNews lo hizo.
Desde una de las mesas junto al vidrio, el Empire State Building aparece iluminado en medio de Manhattan, mientras sus luces se reflejan en los cristales del rooftop y multiplican el skyline.
Es una de esas imágenes que explican por qué los rooftops se convirtieron en una parte fundamental de la experiencia nocturna neoyorquina. No se trata solamente de subir a tomar algo. Se trata de tomar algo dentro del paisaje de Nueva York.
Magic Hour: el lado más divertido de Manhattan
A pocas cuadras de allí, sobre la Séptima Avenida, Moxy propone una experiencia completamente diferente.
En el piso 18 del Moxy Times Square aparece Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, presentado por el hotel como el mayor rooftop indoor/outdoor de hotel abierto durante todo el año en Nueva York.
Si The Fleur Room juega con la sofisticación y las flores, Magic Hour apuesta por algo mucho más irreverente. Luces de neón, música, DJs, instalaciones que cambian con las estaciones, elementos lúdicos y una decoración que convierte al espacio en una suerte de parque de diversiones para adultos sobre los techos de Manhattan.
Y nuevamente, como si hubiera sido colocado allí especialmente para la foto, aparece el Empire State Building.
Magic Hour posee dos áreas exteriores y desde su sector este ofrece una vista prácticamente frontal y sin obstáculos del rascacielos más emblemático de Nueva York. Cuando llega la noche, la postal es extraordinaria.
SunnyNews visitó Magic Hour durante la noche y la experiencia comienza incluso antes de mirar hacia afuera. Pero basta acercarse a los ventanales para que todo cambie. Allí está Manhattan.
El Empire State iluminado domina el centro de la imagen mientras decenas de edificios forman un mosaico de ventanas encendidas alrededor. La combinación de los reflejos del interior sobre los cristales y las luces de la ciudad crea por momentos una imagen casi cinematográfica.
Magic Hour cuenta además con cocktails y una carta pensada para compartir.
Dos rooftops, dos maneras de vivir Nueva York
Elegir entre ambos es difícil porque, en realidad, ofrecen experiencias distintas.
The Fleur Room es más elegante, íntimo y sofisticado. Es el lugar para sentarse frente al ventanal, contemplar la ciudad y descubrir Manhattan desde una perspectiva panorámica.
Magic Hour es energía. Música, colores, gente, diversión y una de esas vistas del Empire State que obligan a sacar el teléfono una y otra vez.
Uno mira Nueva York desde arriba. El otro parece celebrar con ella. Y quizá allí esté la mejor definición de estos dos rooftops de Moxy.
Porque Nueva York es una ciudad que se camina, se escucha, se come y se vive. Pero algunas noches también merece ser contemplada desde el cielo. Con las luces de Manhattan debajo y el Empire State Building enfrente.

New York from Above: Two Moxy Rooftops with Front-Row Views of the Empire State Building

The Fleur Room at Moxy Chelsea and Magic Hour at Moxy Times Square offer two completely different experiences, yet share one extraordinary star: the Manhattan skyline. SunnyNews visited both and discovered two of those special places where New York becomes even more spectacular after sunset.
NEW YORK.- There are countless ways to experience New York. From its sidewalks, surrounded by skyscrapers; aboard the boats crossing its rivers; from its observation decks or while walking across its iconic bridges.
But there is another New York that begins when an elevator door opens, you walk just a few steps and suddenly discover Manhattan glowing behind enormous floor-to-ceiling windows.
This is rooftop New York.
And Moxy offers two privileged places from which to experience it: The Fleur Room, at Moxy Chelsea, and Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, at Moxy Times Square.
SunnyNews visited both during its recent stay in the city and found that, while their personalities could hardly be more different, they share something that is difficult to beat: the Empire State Building practically becoming part of the décor.
The Fleur Room: New York in 360 degrees
Riding the elevator to the 35th floor of Moxy Chelsea means changing your entire perspective of Manhattan.
Perched about 435 feet —more than 130 meters— above the city, The Fleur Room is surrounded by huge glass walls offering 360-degree views of New York.
And suddenly, Manhattan unfolds before you.
In one direction, the Empire State Building dominates the skyline. Looking south, the view stretches across Lower Manhattan toward New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty.
The sensation is almost one of floating above the city.
The interior moves through shades of violet, blue and red. A huge mirrored installation hangs from the ceiling, neon lights sweep across the room and music transforms the rooftop into a party above Manhattan.
The design perfectly complements the experience. The Fleur Room embraces the floral personality of Moxy Chelsea —located in the heart of Manhattan’s historic Flower District— with botanical-inspired interiors, floral fabrics, a copper-clad bar and an enormous vintage disco ball suspended above the lounge.
Yet the greatest show of all is on the other side of the glass.
As daylight fades, Manhattan slowly begins to illuminate, and the landscape changes minute by minute until it becomes that endless sea of lights that makes New York unmistakable.
There is another spectacular detail: the glass walls can retract, transforming the enclosed lounge into an open-air terrace high above Manhattan.
Suddenly, there is almost nothing separating guests from the city.
A drink with the Empire State Building straight ahead
The Fleur Room operates as a lounge, bar and nightlife destination, with cocktails and small plates accompanying the experience. During SunnyNews’ visit, the table filled with sliders, fries, grilled cheese and other small plates, perfect for a casual night out with Manhattan providing the backdrop.
But you could easily spend much of the evening simply staring out the window. SunnyNews did exactly that.
From one of the tables beside the glass, the Empire State Building rises illuminated over Manhattan, while the lights of The Fleur Room reflect against the windows and seemingly multiply the skyline.
It is one of those images that explains why rooftops have become such an essential part of the New York nightlife experience.
It is not simply about having a drink.
It is about having a drink inside the New York skyline.
Magic Hour: Manhattan’s playful side
Just a few blocks away, along Seventh Avenue, Moxy offers a completely different experience.
On the 18th floor of Moxy Times Square sits Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, billed as New York City’s largest all-season indoor/outdoor hotel rooftop bar.
If The Fleur Room plays with sophistication and flowers, Magic Hour takes a much more irreverent approach.
Neon lights, music, DJs, seasonal installations and playful design elements transform the space into something resembling an amusement park for adults perched above the rooftops of Manhattan.
And once again, as though somebody had deliberately positioned it there for the perfect photograph, the Empire State Building appears.
Magic Hour features two outdoor areas, and its east side offers an almost perfectly framed, unobstructed view of New York’s most iconic skyscraper.
Once darkness falls, the scene is extraordinary.
SunnyNews visited Magic Hour at night, and the experience begins even before looking outside.
But walk toward the windows and everything changes. There is New York. The illuminated Empire State Building dominates the view while dozens of surrounding skyscrapers create a mosaic of glowing windows.
The combination of the colorful interior lights reflected against the glass and the Manhattan skyline outside can create an almost cinematic image. Magic Hour also features cocktails and a menu designed for sharing.
Two rooftops, two ways to experience New York
Choosing between the two is difficult because they really offer completely different experiences.
The Fleur Room is more elegant, intimate and sophisticated. It is a place to sit beside the windows, contemplate the city and discover Manhattan from an extraordinary panoramic perspective.
Magic Hour is pure energy. Music, color, people, fun and one of those views of the Empire State Building that makes you reach for your phone again and again.
One invites you to gaze at New York from above. The other feels like a celebration with the city itself. And perhaps that is the best way to describe these two Moxy rooftops.
Because New York is a city to walk, hear, taste and experience. But on some nights, it also deserves to simply be admired from the sky. With the lights of Manhattan below and the Empire State Building straight ahead.
