A pocas cuadras de Times Square, Broadway, Penn Station y Madison Square Garden, Moxy Times Square ocupa un edificio histórico transformado en un hotel donde Nueva York parece continuar puertas adentro. Habitaciones inteligentes, espacios para trabajar y encontrarse, gastronomía y uno de los rooftops más reconocibles de la ciudad completan una propuesta con espíritu joven en pleno Midtown.
NUEVA YORK.- Hay hoteles que sirven como refugio después de recorrer Nueva York y otros que parecen formar parte del viaje. Moxy Times Square pertenece claramente al segundo grupo.
En el 485 de Seventh Avenue, a la altura de la calle 36, basta salir por la puerta para volver a sentir ese pulso inconfundible de Manhattan: taxis, bocinas, gente caminando deprisa, oficinas, tiendas y restaurantes. Times Square y las marquesinas de Broadway esperan apenas unas cuadras más al norte; Penn Station y Madison Square Garden están a pocos minutos hacia el sur.
Pero una de las virtudes del Moxy es que el ritmo de la ciudad no termina al atravesar su entrada.
Desde el check-in, con su iluminación de neón y una estética informal, hasta el enorme atrio que atraviesa los espacios comunes, el hotel tiene movimiento prácticamente a cualquier hora.
Y allí aparece algo que SunnyNews pudo comprobar durante su estadía: detrás de toda esa estética moderna hay un componente mucho más tradicional y decisivo en cualquier hotel, la atención de su gente.
Empleados como JB, siempre atentos y dispuestos a ayudar, terminan aportando esa cercanía que hace que un hotel de grandes dimensiones pueda sentirse mucho más personal.
Un edificio histórico con otra vida
Moxy Times Square abrió en 2017 después de la transformación de un edificio histórico de Midtown y conserva exteriormente esa presencia clásica neoyorquina que contrasta con el espíritu mucho más desenfadado de sus interiores.
Detrás de esa fachada funcionan actualmente 612 habitaciones, diseñadas por el estudio Yabu Pushelberg.
La filosofía se entiende rápidamente al entrar en ellas: en Nueva York cada metro cuenta.
En lugar de llenar el cuarto de muebles convencionales, Moxy apuesta por soluciones flexibles y elementos que pueden plegarse, moverse o guardarse, incluidos escritorios y sillas, además de espacios de almacenamiento integrados.
Las habitaciones son compactas pero funcionales, con grandes camas, duchas tipo rain shower y una estética deliberadamente urbana.
Y después están las ventanas. No necesariamente buscan aislar al huésped de Manhattan. Al contrario: en muchas habitaciones, al correr la cortina aparecen frente a uno las fachadas, ventanas, ladrillos y edificios de Midtown.
Es esa particular vista neoyorquina que quizá no figure en las postales, pero que recuerda a cada instante dónde uno está.
El lobby que también funciona como oficina
Otro de los rasgos distintivos del hotel aparece en sus espacios comunes.
Bar Moxy, ubicado bajo un gran atrio iluminado naturalmente, funciona como bar y lounge, pero también como espacio de coworking. El mobiliario flexible permite instalarse con una notebook, mantener una reunión o simplemente sentarse a mirar cómo transcurre el día.
Es una idea particularmente útil para el viajero actual: la habitación queda para descansar y buena parte de la vida del hotel sucede en sus áreas compartidas.
Durante el día aparecen computadoras y cafés sobre las mesas. A medida que avanza la tarde, el mismo lugar cambia de personalidad y empieza a parecerse cada vez más a un bar de Manhattan.
El hotel también cuenta allí con una propuesta de Café d’Avignon (FOTO, abajo), con café, pastelería francesa y opciones rápidas.
Legasea, la propuesta gastronómica
En la planta baja funciona Legasea Bar & Grill, uno de los espacios gastronómicos del establecimiento.
La propuesta de TAO Group reinterpreta los clásicos del bar & grill estadounidense en un ambiente informal, con restaurante y un animado sector de bar.
Es también una alternativa cómoda después de un día recorriendo Manhattan: cenar sin necesidad de volver a salir del hotel, aunque en Moxy la noche todavía puede estar muy lejos de terminar.
Porque arriba espera probablemente su espacio más famoso.
Magic Hour: Manhattan desde el rooftop
En el piso 18 se encuentra Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, presentado por el hotel como el mayor rooftop de hotel indoor/outdoor de Times Square abierto durante todo el año.
Y acá Moxy abandona cualquier intento de discreción.
Magic Hour juega con la idea de un pequeño parque de diversiones urbano: instalaciones que cambian según la temporada, DJ, espacios interiores y exteriores y una terraza desde la cual aparece uno de los grandes protagonistas del skyline de Nueva York: el Empire State Building.
Es un rooftop que funciona como destino por sí mismo. No hace falta hospedarse en el hotel para conocerlo y, especialmente durante las noches y los fines de semana, atrae tanto a visitantes como a neoyorquinos.
Un hotel que entiende dónde está
Quizás esa sea la mejor manera de explicar Moxy Times Square. No pretende crear una burbuja alejada de Nueva York. Hace exactamente lo contrario.
Toma habitaciones compactas, edificios que se asoman por las ventanas, espacios compartidos, música, gastronomía, gente entrando y saliendo, un rooftop encendido hasta tarde y la energía de Midtown para construir una experiencia que tiene mucho de la ciudad que existe del otro lado de la puerta.
Por la mañana se puede salir caminando rumbo a Broadway. Por la tarde trabajar un rato en Bar Moxy. Por la noche cenar en Legasea y terminar mirando las luces de Manhattan desde Magic Hour.
Y después subir a la habitación, cerrar la puerta y descansar. Afuera, en cambio, la ciudad no descansa.

Just a few blocks from Times Square, Broadway, Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, Moxy Times Square occupies a historic building transformed into a hotel where New York seems to continue beyond the street and right through its doors. Smart rooms, spaces to work and socialize, dining options and one of the city’s most recognizable rooftops complete a youthful experience in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
NEW YORK.- Some hotels are simply a place to retreat to after exploring New York. Others somehow become part of the journey itself. Moxy Times Square clearly belongs to the second group.
Located at 485 Seventh Avenue, near 36th Street, stepping outside immediately puts guests back into Manhattan’s unmistakable rhythm: yellow cabs, horns, crowds moving at full speed, offices, stores and restaurants.
Times Square and Broadway’s glowing marquees are just a few blocks north, while Penn Station and Madison Square Garden are only a short walk to the south.

Team members such as JB and Joseph, always friendly, attentive and ready to help, bring a personal touch to a large hotel and make the experience feel considerably warmer.
A Historic Building with a New Life
Moxy Times Square opened in 2017 following the transformation of a historic Midtown building. Its exterior retains a classic New York presence that provides an interesting contrast with the much more playful personality found inside.
Behind that façade are 612 guestrooms, with interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg.
The concept becomes clear as soon as you enter a room: in New York, every square foot matters.
Rather than filling the room with conventional furniture, Moxy relies on flexible design and pieces that can be folded, moved or stored, allowing guests to adapt the space to their needs.
Rooms are compact but functional, with comfortable beds, rain showers and a deliberately urban aesthetic.
And then there are the windows. They do not necessarily try to isolate guests from Manhattan. Quite the opposite. Open the curtains and, depending on the room, you may find yourself looking directly at Midtown’s façades, windows, brick walls and surrounding buildings.
It may not be the New York skyline found on a postcard, but it is perhaps an even more authentic reminder of exactly where you are.
A Lobby That Can Also Become Your Office
Another defining feature of Moxy Times Square is the importance given to its shared spaces.
Bar Moxy, set beneath the hotel’s dramatic atrium, works as a bar and lounge but also doubles as a coworking space.
Flexible furniture makes it easy to open a laptop, hold an informal meeting, have a coffee or simply sit down and watch the hotel — and New York — go by.
It is a particularly useful concept for today’s traveler: the guestroom becomes a place to rest, while much of the hotel’s social life takes place in the common areas.
During the day, laptops and coffee cups appear across the tables. As afternoon turns into evening, the same space gradually changes personality and begins to feel much more like a Manhattan bar.
The hotel also features a Café d’Avignon offering coffee, pastries and quick bites.
Legasea: Dining Without Leaving the Hotel
On the ground floor, Legasea Bar & Grill provides one of the hotel’s main dining experiences.
Operated by TAO Group, the restaurant offers a contemporary interpretation of the classic American bar & grill in a casual setting that includes both dining and bar areas.
It is also an appealing option after a long day exploring Manhattan: guests can have dinner without leaving the hotel.
Although at Moxy, dinner certainly does not have to mean the end of the night.
Because upstairs awaits perhaps the property’s most famous attraction.
Magic Hour: Manhattan from the Rooftop
On the 18th floor is Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, one of Moxy Times Square’s signatures and one of the most recognizable hotel rooftops in Midtown.
This is where Moxy leaves subtlety behind.
Magic Hour plays with the idea of an urban amusement park, with seasonal installations, DJs, indoor and outdoor areas and a terrace offering views of one of New York’s most iconic landmarks: the Empire State Building.
It has become a destination in its own right.
Guests do not need to be staying at Moxy to visit, and especially at night and on weekends, the rooftop attracts both travelers and New Yorkers looking to experience Manhattan from above.
A Hotel That Understands Where It Is
Perhaps that is the best way to describe Moxy Times Square.
It does not attempt to create a bubble separated from New York. It does precisely the opposite.
Compact rooms, buildings appearing outside the windows, communal spaces, music, restaurants, people constantly coming and going, a rooftop alive late into the night and Midtown’s endless energy all come together to create an experience that feels closely connected to the city outside.
In the morning, you can walk toward Broadway and Times Square.
In the afternoon, open your laptop and work for a while at Bar Moxy.
At night, have dinner at Legasea before heading upstairs for views of Manhattan from Magic Hour.
And eventually, return to your room, close the door and get some sleep. Because outside — and, in its own way, inside Moxy too — New York never really sleeps.
